Yunache

Yunache (Little Hero) is a 3D adventure game set in a magical forest full of creatures from Bulgarian folklore. As you explore, you collect lost memories, and each one fills in a page of an old journal. I designed the interface around that journal, and painted concept art based on real places in Bulgaria.

Title slide: Yunache (Little Hero) — game UI and 2D concept art, Aniventure Comic Con 2024, Sofia.
Overview: a 3D adventure game set in a magical forest full of creatures from Bulgarian folklore, where each lost memory fills a page of an old journal.
What I worked on: start menu, HUD, the journal, page states and concept art.
Start menu: the menu laid out over a painted view of the portal tree, with folk-pattern selection icons.
HUD: health as three roses, small red enemy health bars and a journal icon.
The journal: the game's main menu lives inside an old book.
How the journal is built: bookmarks, illustrated pages, page arrows and a close button.
Bookmarks and buttons: each bookmark carries a small line drawing of its page.
Inside the journal: spreads about places, creatures and the story, such as the portal tree and the magical forest.
Two versions of the journal: bookmarks only, then with a close button and page arrows.
Page states: empty pages with grey bookmarks, and collected pages with full drawings and colourful bookmarks.
Concept art: painted environments, each based on a real place in Bulgaria.
From sketch to colour: a greyscale value sketch, then the final painting of a forest bridge.
The old house: an overgrown two-storey house inspired by old Bulgarian villages such as Koprivshtitsa.
Cave colour studies: a purple and a green version of the same cave.
Mountains and rivers: a mountain valley sketch and a forest river.
The finished world: stills from the game trailer, including the journal in use.
